Picnic on the Beach

As I’ve been feeling a little uninspired lately on the blog, I thought I would use the old good method of brainstorming to overcome the moments of brain-freeze. I asked myself "Where would you really like to be right now?" The answer came very quickly, almost without even thinking:  At a picnic on the beach.  Think of a dreamy afternoon with nothing on the agenda, enjoying mini bruschettas topped with olive oil,  plum tomatoes and fresh basil or oregano, Greek meat balls with mustard on a baguette, fresh sparkling  lemonade, chilled Greek wine  or cold beer out of colourful plastic glasses and a juicy fruit salad while sitting on a picnic blanket and listening to the sound of the waves. I am wearing a fun floral print dress and leather sandals with a great, big hat and sunglasses. Oh so chic!

With summer just around the corner, I’ve put together a collection of picnic accessories that will elevate your next outing, whether it is your neighbourhood park, backyard or a beach. 

Κυνηγώντας την έμπνευση, σκέφτηκα να χρησιμοποιήσω την παλιά, καλή μέθοδο της καταιγίδας ιδεών ή αλλιώς brainstorming. Ρώτησα λοιπόν τον εαυτό μου: "Πού θα ήθελες πραγματικά να βρίσκεσαι τώρα;" Η απάντηση δόθηκε γρήγορα και αβίαστα: σε πικνίκ σε μία παραλία. Ελάτε να στήσουμε το σκηνικό. Ένα ονειρικό απόγευμα χωρίς καμία υποχρέωση, απολαμβάνω μικρές μπρουσκέτες με ελαιόλαδο, ζουμερές ντομάτες και φρέσκο βασιλικό ή ρίγανη, κεφτεδάκια με μουστάρδα σε γαλλική μπαγκέτα, σπιτική λεμονάδα, δροσερό κρασί ή κρύα μπύρα σε πλαστικά, ζωηρόχρωμα ποτήρια και λαχταριστή φρουτοσαλάτα σε μία κουβέρτα του πικνίκ με συνοδεία το πάφλασμα των κυμάτων. Φοράω ένα παιχνιδιάρικο, λουλουδάτο φόρεμα και δερμάτινα σανδάλια με ένα μεγάλο ψάθινο καπέλο και γυαλιά ηλίου. So chic!

Καθώς  λοιπόν το καλοκαίρι πλησιάζει, έχω ετοιμάσει μία συλλογή αξεσουάρ για πικνίκ, τα οποία θα απογειώσουν την επόμενή σας εξόρμηση, είτε πρόκειται για το πάρκο της γειτονιάς, την αυλή ή την παραλία. Φροντίστε το σκηνικό, δημιουργήστε ατμόσφαιρα και απολαύστε στο μάξιμουμ τις μικρές χαρές της ζωής!

Quick Fix

 

A multi-tasking busy bee like me never keeps the colour of her nails for long. Anyways, sticking to the same colour would be rather boring.  But the whole nail painting process is not so fun for me, as some ambidextrous skills are required. They say that practice makes perfect. However, the luck of patience from my part leads to a repetitive, nerve racking process of painting-removing-repeating application. C’mon we’ve all been there!

I was over the moon when I discovered the magic Express Nail Polish Remover by Sephora.  It’s a genius pot of pleated foam soaked in nail polish remover. I just dip my not so perfectly polished finger in the pot, give a twist or two against the pre-moistened soft sponge, and wow within seconds not a trace of polish remains! No need to faff about with cotton balls, it is gentle on my nails, paraben free  and there are no traces of oily residue after dipping. On the down side, acrobatic skills of a yogi would be required in an attempt to dip my toe nails in the pot*! I find the Express Nail Polish Remover by Sephora quite expensive to use it on a regular basis, but really handy for my travel kit for a mess free quick fix. I can see the magic!

Η πολυπράγμων φύση μου  δεν μου επιτρέπει να κρατώ το χρώμα των νυχιών μου αψεγάδιαστο για πολύ καιρό. Έτσι κι αλλιώς δε θα ήταν βαρετό; Όμως η όλη διαδικασία, βάφω – ξεβάφω, δεν είναι διασκεδαστική, καθώς δεν φημίζομαι για την αμφιδεξιότητά μου. Λένε ότι  χρειάζεται εξάσκηση για να φτάσεις στην τελειότητα. Ωστόσο, η έλλειψη υπομονής που με διακατέχει,  με οδηγεί σε ένα άκρως εκνευριστικό βάφω-ξεβάφω-και πάμε πάλι από την αρχή. Με νιώθεις; Με καταλαβαίνεις έστω και λίγο;

Πέταξα λοιπόν από τη χαρά μου όταν ανακάλυψα, έστω και καθυστερημένα, το μαγικό Express Nail Polish Remover της Sephora. Είναι ένα έξυπνο βαζάκι με ένα σφουγγαράκι εμποτισμένο με ξεβαφτικό βερνικιού. Απλά  βυθίζω το αποτυχημένα βαμμένο δάχτυλό μου στο βαζάκι, το στριφογυρίζω 1-2 φορές  και μέσα σε δευτερόλεπτα έχει αφαιρεθεί κάθε ίχνος βερνικιού! Δεν υπάρχει λόγος να ταλαιπωρούμαι με βαμβάκια, είναι φιλικό με τα νύχια μου, χωρίς paraben και δεν αφήνει ίχνη λιπαρότητας.  Δυστυχώς όμως χρειάζεσαι την ευελιξία πεπειραμένης γιογκού, εάν επιχειρήσεις να βυθίσεις τα δάχτυλα του ποδιού σου στο μαγικό βαζάκι. Βρίσκω το Express Nail Polish Remover της Sephora ακριβούτσικο για συχνή χρήση, αλλά ιδανικό για το νεσεσέρ των διακοπών για καθαρές και γρήγορες δουλειές.  I can see the magic! Εσύ;

The Renaissance of the Ugly Shoe Trend

 {Yfantidis Sandal}

When it comes to shoes,  I am usually open to trying the sensible and insensible ones. But I was not overwhelmed with joy when I heard about the return of the Birkenstock sandal. Immediately comes to my mind the lovely tourist visiting the Greek island wearing the bulky, ugly sandal with socks during a heat wave!

But my bestie, owner of a slippers and sandals boutique, has stepped into the fray to challenge all of that, with the launch of the "new Birkenstock" type sandal. Despite my long-time hate affair with the double strap sandal, I am quite tempted to sport this Yfantidis flat mule in shiny leather straps and silver details. It’s a chic, refined, polished version of the Birkenstock, with girly details and it is so light, sturdy and comfortable. Ideal for the comfort-seeking , yet stylish girls.

Remember though taking off the socks and having a fresh pedicure is a must to elevate the Birkenstock shoe trend!

Η Αναγέννηση του 'Ασχημου Παπουτσιού

Όταν πρόκειται για παπούτσια, είμαι ανοιχτή σε κάθε είδους πρόταση. Όμως δεν πέταξα από τη χαρά μου, όταν άκουσα για την επιστροφή του Birkenstock σανδαλιού. Αμέσως έρχεται στο μυαλό μου ο αξιαγάπητος τουρίστας, που επισκέπτεται τα νησιά μας φορώντας το χοντροκομμένo, άσχημο σανδάλι με κάλτσες, μέσα στον καύσωνα!

Ωστόσο αγαπημένη φίλη και ιδιοκτήτρια boutique με σανδάλια και παντόφλες βάλθηκε να μου αλλάξει γνώμη με το λανσάρισμα του νέου, τύπου Birkenstock σανδαλιού. Ομολογώ ότι έχω μπει στον πειρασμό να κυκλοφορήσω αυτό το καλοκαίρι, αυτό το flat σανδάλι Υφαντίδης με το γυαλιστερό δέρμα και τις ασημένιες λεπτομέρειες. Είναι μία νέα, εκλεπτυσμένη εκδοχή, τύπου Birkenstock σανδαλιού με κοριτσίστικες λεπτομέρειες. Είναι ελαφρύ, σταθερό, ανατομικό και άνετο. Ιδανικό για όλες εμάς που αναζητούμε την άνεση, χωρίς να θυσιάζουμε το στυλ!
